Download a live Puppy (Linux distro) today
Rescue files after a hard drive crash with Puppy Linux.
Twice in the last month I’ve gotten calls from friends that said “I get an error when I try to boot to Windows”. Often, an error booting up can be do to a hard drive that is starting to fail. The safest thing to do at that point is rescue as much data as you can from the hard drive before it dies totally. One way to do this is booting up a live CD Linux distro. Puppy Linux distros are great for this, as they are small and take up little memory. Xubuntu and Ubuntu also both have live CDs. A live CD will boot from the CD drive and provide an operating system without writing to a hard drive. You can then look at the hard drive that won’t boot and copy files you want to rescue to a thumbdrive.
Of course, you have to burn the live CD before your computer crashes! So be ready. Burn a copy of Puppy Linux, or your favorite live CD Linux distro today.
