Fourth of July sunset and fireworks

The weather was great at Walking Ridge.  As a clear sunny day came to an end, long shadows were cast over the hills and a nearby pond.  A couple of hours later, there were three fireworks shows within site on the horizon.

We have many holidays.  I think it is fitting that there be such fanfare to celebrate and remember the birth of the nation.  It is such a remarkable story, and could easily have turned out differently.

It is also a day that reminds me of how much thought went into the formation of the country.  It is incredible to think that the constitution still applies as well as it does in this modern age.  After all, our founding fathers had no idea there would be telephones, the internet, or 50 states.

I am able to enjoy a beautiful 74 degree day with sunshine and a nice breeze because the founding fathers risked all for a vision they believed in and the Continental Army endured bone chilling cold in tents at Valley Forge with minimal food to ultimately defeat the army that was comfortably settled in at Philadelphia.
